Mercury to Celebrate the Resiliency of the Houston Community with Free Concert

Hurricane Harvey won't prevent Houston's period-ensemble from sharing music with the broader Houston community. Mercury's annual free community concert at Miller Outdoor Theater, cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey, has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 7:30 pm.
"In honor of the Houston community's strength and resilience, we have created a new program that will include joyful music by Vivaldi, Bach and Handel," stated Artistic Director Antoine Plante. We hope you will join us in celebrating the 'can do' spirit of Houston."

Mercury Artistic Director Antoine Plante and Executive Director Brian Ritter announce the orchestra’s seventeenth season today. Beginning August 31, 2017, and featuring a vibrant mix of composers from various countries and a diverse range of works, the 2017-18 season offers something for music lovers of all ages. Piazzolla’s mesmerizing Libertango, a multi-media infused Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, traditional English Carols, Corelli’s joyful Concerto Grosso, Op. 6 No. 4, Bach’s beloved St. Matthew Passion, and an original staged performance focusing on the life and works of Clara Wieck Schumann are just a few of the incredible works that will be performed.
Mozart’s Requiem offers a grand finale to Mercury’s 16th Season

Artistic Director Antoine Plante and Mercury present Mozart’s Requiem, on Saturday, May 13 at 8 PM at the Wortham Center’s Cullen Theater for the 2016-2017 season finale. A must-see for any music lover, Mozart’s final composition is a profoundly moving work, brimming with drama, hopefulness and redemption. Audiences will experience this unforgettable masterpiece on period instruments. Joining Mercury are vocalists Yulia Van Doren (soprano), Sarah Mesko (alto), Aaron Sheehan (tenor) and Stephen Hegedus (bass), along with select members of the Houston Symphony Chorus under the direction of Betsy Cook Weber. The evening also includes Henry Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary. Major support for this concert comes from Haynes & Boone, LLP; The Albert & Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation; Houston Arts Alliance; Houston First; and the Houston Endowment, Inc.
